When “They” Make You Feel Inferior....

“They.” “They” truly tear my nerves up. You know who “They” are. Bosses or co-workers at your job that think you don’t know much or can’t do much. Family members that think they know you, your life and your future all too well. People you automatically assume (through discernment or paranoia) are just not in your corner...don’t wish you well...don’t see anything special in you. “They” are defined as people who make you feel undervalued, undeserving, and unqualified. I don’t really like to acknowledge these people by their actual names...I just group them in a pile and label all of them “they.”

I think what I love most about Jesus is that He can relate on a human level. He had a group like that too. He understood what it was like to be underestimated. He took jeers from people that were considered qualified to speak on the Law and it’s meanings. I’m sure He was mocked from people who had no clue about His Father’s business but acted like they did.  I don’t know about you but that seems to be a constant issue I’m currently facing.

So what’s the solution? Other than screaming...getting an attitude.....or giving up on your job/life/etc.??????

I’m still working on it.

Were you not expecting that answer???? I’m sorry but one of the quirks of being peculiar is to be truthful. In my search for answers here’s some things I’ve learned....

  1. That my worth and what I bring to the table isn’t determined by what “they” believe it is. When I pursue little tasks or big goals, I do it to the best of my ability. I don’t leave room for anyone to say that I didn’t step up to the plate. Do it like you’re working for the King Himself (Colossians 3:23).

  1. That even though I KNOW they are doubtful of me doing great things or doing things well I give honor where honor is due and I’m as polite to them as I am to people I honor and respect. That’s a hard one for me. The best quote I’ve heard is that what people think about me is none of my business. Simply mind your business and use your best energy to pursue your God given dreams. Besides even if they have inferior thoughts about you take advice from Eleanor Roosevelt who said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

  1. Don’t lose hope. Know in due season you’ll reap everything you’ve sown. Anything can happen. God uses the foolish things....the unlikely things....the unlikely people to shame the wise. Even when people believe you shouldn’t be where you are, remember it’s never up to them to begin with. It’s up to God....and it’s up to you.

Don’t let them run your life. Don’t let them give you doubts of God’s faithfulness in your head. You’re right where you need to be. You’re connecting to the right people. You’re learning everything you need to learn now. Stay low. Stay humble. Mind your business.
