When God Holds You Accountable...

Well friends, it’s a new year! I’m assuming a lot of us have spent the time renewing our minds and making resolutions this year. I’m no different. Every year seems like it provides a fresh opportunity to start over. To do things differently. To make changes.

As for me I plan to do a lot of things. I’m putting valuable effort cooking skills this year. I’m telling I plan on producing some “Pinterest worthy” creations. I’ve attempted to make some life changing resolutions as well. Taking leaps of faith in my career…. trying new things…. exploring new hobbies. Truly forgetting everything that happened (or didn’t) behind me a pressing towards my high calling.

The problem is one that probably 98% of us have. I low key hoped most of these resolutions would just……happen. That watching all these Chopped and Worst Cooks of America shows on the Food Network would make me a MasterChef in the kitchen. That opportunities that I wasn’t previously searching for would start coming my way and there would be nothing required for me to participate or make something out of the opportunity. That I could just say my normal prayers at night and not spend extra time with God to examine my heart or renew my mind.

In a way, God and I were staring at each other with our heads cocked to the side and our hands on our hip.

“Well?????’” I tell God…

“Well what?” He replies. “You prayed. I answered. Yet you’re still sitting here.”

If 2018 taught me nothing else, is that resolutions are good only when you make the effort to participate. I had everything I needed to start changing my life and I wasn’t using. I was being held accountable for the talents I had been given. It’s true that faith without works is dead. You’re wasting time. Eventually in order to pursue the things you want, you must re-arrange your time, venture out on a limb. Write the business plan. Write the blog. Start the book. Whatever it is…..begin to pursue the things you plan to accomplish.

So my word in 2019 is PURSUE. Let’s get up and intentionally strive to accomplish every goal we said we would do this year. Let’s make our “peculiar” story something worth telling this year!
